If I wrote a textbook, it'd be called English is Mean.
As a teacher, parent, and ESOL tutor, I often told students, kids, and tutees (?!) that English is mean. Here are a few of my favorite examples.

Indicted vs indighted
One of the first times I had to "top and read" the news on the college radio station, I had no idea how to pronounce indicted.
